About Armenian General Benevolent Union Western District
AGBU’s presence in the United States started right here. 1910 in Fresno. In fact, it was the first chapter to be established in the Western Hemisphere. With a quick expansion to Southern California in the 1920s and the state quickly becoming a bedrock of Armenian communities, AGBU found a home and built a community.
Our current reach spans the West Coast – from Silicon Valley to San Diego, and ventures east to Arizona and even Texas. Our committees speak to the diversity of our region and the interests of our people. Chapter committees initiate programs and interesting events, arts groups encourage cultural exploration and enhancement, young professionals plan thought-provoking lectures and offer unique venues for networking, Asbeds and special committees provide seminars, mentorships and social activities, scouts leadership and sports committees bring youth together to provide unending opportunities for bonding and development, women’s committees provide both wholesome gatherings and inspiring empowerment events and community service both in here in their hometowns and in their homeland.
We are proud to boast a thriving K-12 school in Canoga Park, CA, the Manoogian Demirdjian School as well as the Artemis Nazarian Preschool. In addition, Saturday Schools and afterschool learning programs offer a myriad of learning platforms in Orange County, Fresno and Los Angeles. For example, our GenNext Mentorship and Afterschool program in Glendale, CA provides peer support as well as tutoring. And we continue to add to our array of offerings.
In short, there’s something for everyone.
Steadfast in our commitment to AGBU’s mission to create a foundation for the prosperity of all Armenians, we work together under the motto: In Unity is Strength.
